Description:

Not a very close picture (sorry) but I often see long-legged birds in this waterway along the Chattahoochee River. I think this was a great blue heron, but maybe a different type or an egret?

Habitat:

Shallow water, slower moving than the river.

Yep, this is a Great Blue Heron :) There are only two large wading birds this size in your area, the other is the Great Egret which is all white.
