Field Notes

Description:

1 to 1.25 inches long. Has large semicircular crest on thorax. The only insect in the U. S. that has such a crest.

Habitat:

Resting in metal frame being used to support pole beans.

Notes:

Adults and nymphs can inflict a painful bite on humans.
