Field Notes

Description:

Tiny birds with needle-like beaks that can enter deep into the flowers to take nectar. Can also hover while feeding; making many mistake these for Hummingbirds (India doesn't have any.)

Habitat:

Common in gardens, may also nest there. Here it is feeding on the nectar of Tecoma capensis, Cape Honeysuckle-a potted plant on the roof.

Notes:

This is the female. The male is gloriously...riotously colourful.
