Description:
Arachnid nearly 1 1/2 inches long. There were two of them looking for a meal underneath the porch light. The long pedipalps look like legs when they hold them out in front of them. The two eyes are close together like a scorpion and despite the common names of Windscorpion and Sunspider, they're neither of those orders. This arachnid is from the Solifugae order and this one is from the Eremobatidae family based on the straight line of the anterior margin of the propeltidium (last image).
Habitat:
Under porch light in the backyard on a hot and windy evening.
Notes:
"They lack venom, but the strong jaws may inflict a sharp bite in self-defense if handled. The most common species are quite small and can hardly be felt except for a slight "pinch". Larger members (e.g., Eremorhax spp.) have been known to draw blood. Immediately disinfect the bite."
