Field Notes

Description:

This solitary mushroom had a cap about 40 mm wide. The convex cap was covered with fine brown fibrils that were denser near the centre. The cap margin had fine pale wispy tissue. Gills were free, pale and very close. A palre yellow stipe appeared to be covered with soft white fibres. A ring with a dark broken margin was seen a third of the distance from the cap.

Habitat:

Spotted growing in a wet eucalyptus forest, close to a damp log, possibly from the damp ground.

Notes:

Looking for an ID for this mushroom - It's probably Agaricus subrutilescens

Will investigate further.

Thanks for looking at this CorduneanuVlad. I did have a look at A.sylvaticus and I am sure that the ring there is skirt-like and the stipe below the ring is scaly. The annulus in this spotting was not detached but stood straight out instead of hanging down. Will look again..though, thanks.
See also Agaricus Silvaticus. I say this becasue in the young Agaricus subrutilescens the ring is still attached to the stem, and this one looks like a young specimen and the ring is detached.
