Field Notes

Description:

This little ladybird was on a young Live Oak. We were planting trees in the backyard so I removed him from the tree just to be safe while we transported it and planted it. Before I placed the ladybird on a newly planted tree I checked his underside. It is mostly all red underneath. I think it is from the Chilocorus genus, but unsure of the species. I was thinking about Chilocorus cacti?

Habitat:

Open field

Notes:

Picture was taken in Orlando, FL.

Species ID Suggestions

twicestabbed lady beetle

Chilocorus stigma

I put up a third picture up with a close up, but don't have any pictures of the head, but you can kind of see the pronotum. It also kind of looks like it was eating the lichen? I don't think I saw any white, but I could wrong. :/
Or a less common color variation of the Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle (Harmonia axyridis): http://bugguide.net/node/view/70564
Do you have any shots of the protonum and head? Consider, perhaps the Ashy Gray Lady Beetle (Olla v-nigrum): http://bugguide.net/node/view/8874
