Field Notes

Description:

Medium -sized tree. Leaves feel like sand paper. Flowers are small and white, sweetly scented and with orange centre and stalk. Flowers are frequented by insects. The second picture taken later (same tree) shows the dried seeds.

Habitat:

Usually in gardens because the flowers are used for worship. Also by the roadside in residential colonies. This one is in my garden.

Notes:

The flower forms a carpet on the ground in the morning. Called Sheuli in Bengali/Bangla and Har-shringar in Hindi.
2nd photo shows the seed pods.
