Description:

When I visited the rice mill on the afternoon of Mar 13th., I saw a very nice Heteropoda venatoria (Huntsman Spider) resting on foliage along the fence line of the front yard. I did not have my camera with me (or my cellphone). So I was unable to take any pictures. On the following morning, I went on a little spider hunt around the rice mill and remembered the Huntsman. So I went to the spot where I had seen it (rather half-heartedly, knowing that it would almost certainly be long gone). The photos show what I found at the exact spot, the exuvia of the Huntsman. I cannot guarantee that this exuvia is definitely from the same spider, but I have seen Huntsman exuviae many times and this one looks right to me. I think it would be too coincidental to think that a different spider would moult in that place at that time. I read recently in Wikipedia that biologists can ascertain a great deal of information from these exuviae and they are considered quite important. I had never given them much thought until now.

Habitat:

Spotted in the rice mill front yard, on foliage growing along the fence line.
