Field Notes

Description:

Five centimeters long, with bright yellow-orange bands on the hind portion of each segment.

Habitat:

Found on the forest floor of a second-growth, hardwood forest with a well-developed understory of young trees.

Notes:

I suspect this may be one of the Apheloria viginiensis millipedes, but I don't have the knowledge to confirm this identification. I am uncertain as to how to distinguish species of millipedes.
