Field Notes

Description:

Pure white, marshmallow looking cap (too pretty) sometimes with a dark grey central spot, thick cap bruises canary yellow when rubbed repeatedly. Gills are bubble gum pink when young changing to dark chocolate when older. Deep gills. Stem is white and non-tapering but has a bend in the stem toward the base. Has a phenolic or medicinal odor. If you take a knife and split the base bulb lengthwise it stains a bright canary yellow.

Habitat:

Growing in grassy areas and in the weedy dirt near a concrete wall of the Botanic Gardens West gate. Did not grow under pine trees but did grow out in the grass between the pine trees.

Notes:

Agaricus xanthodermus
