Field Notes

Description:

Barely a scratch on the soil in the pot and a few sticks haphazardly crisscrossed and Voila! A pigeon's nest

Habitat:

Urban.

Notes:

This nest in an unused flower pot was in the balcony of an inhabited apartment. It was right under an extremely noisy room-cooler. The balcony was regularly used with people coming and going at odd times, hanging out clothes, watering plants etc.
In response to a comment I have added a third photo where it is clear that the mother is feeding the squab some "crop milk." The photo is of the same squabs that were hatched (first photo) on 07 September 2012 and they grew up being photographed almost everyday!

Wonderful feeding picture!
Ava T-B I added a photo of the mom feeding her squabs.
Hi! Ava T-B, I have a video of a Yellow-footed Green pigeon feeding her chick.
Amazingly, pigeons (and flamingoes) make "milk" in their crop for their babies. The crop milk contains more protein and fat than does cow or human milk. https://www.stanford.edu/group/stanfordbirds/text/essays/Bird_Milk.html
