Field Notes

Description:

Large crow sized woodpecker with a red crest and a black body.

Notes:

This one was carefully pecking at the decaying wood at the bottom of a tree at George L Smith SP. It kept hoping down to the ground to toss out wood it had already loosened and then turning its head upside down to get at hard to reach insects
