Field Notes

Description:

A flower with 3 different layers with prominent colors which helps to differentiate between the layers. A combination of off white colored longer petals, 2 layers of colorful long spikes which are of smaller length than the petals and at the center a complicated green protruding part which is rising upwards.

Habitat:

I had spotted it at Almora in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. It is a dry, cool mountainous region.

Notes:

Local people named it as "Jhumko Lata" where lata = creeper. Also called "Passion flower" in US and "Lilikoi" in Hawaii.. ID confirmation, other names and Scientific name curtsey SargonR.

The color of the fruit changes from place to place. Ours stays mostly green or slightly yellow.

We call them Passion Flower, or Passion Fruit, in the US. Lilikoi here in Hawaii.
