Collected by a wildlife biologist and safely returned to the creek.

Species ID Suggestions

Rough-skinned Newt

Taricha granulosa granulosa

Also hope you washed your hands. This species is the most toxic of the Newts.
You can tell by the eyes which it is.
It's definitely in the genus Taricha although it's hard to tell the species without the exact location. I'm not the most familiar with the species but it could be a California newt or even a rough skinned newt
