Australian Tortoise Beetle
Trachymela sloanei
33.135, -117.034
Field Notes
Description:
I just love their little feet! They remind me of Pachyderms. This beetle is very round and was about 6 mm long. It has a brown and red, mottled pattern. The "toes" are white. This beetle turned around to look at me while I was taking photographs. It flew and landed on my lens so I had to remove it and put it back where it was. That is how it ended up on my finger.
Habitat:
Porch light in the backyard. "Introduced from Australia. First recorded in 1998 in California."
Notes:
The larvae can be seen at my other spotting : http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/14316023
