Description:

Green, semi-transparent caterpillar with a yellow head. Single stemmata on each side of the head. Subfamily Tenthredininae

Habitat:

On nagoonberry on top of a small mountain in tundra habitat

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that. However, I think I have a bit of a better chance at ID since we usually have a more limited number of species that occur on the island. I submitted to bugguide and I'll wait and see what they say.
I agree that this looks like a Sawfly larva. I don't have a good reference for Alaskan insects, though. I know that Sawfly larvae that look similar in the lower 48 States don't usually get identified unless someone rears them to adult.
