Description:

One of the most common dragonflies in the States. Can be found near slow-moving water sources. Adults have four wings. This one is a male, identifiable by the chalky blue abdomen and black "tail". Their eyes take on a metallic sheen in sunlight. Males are territorial and guard their area of water. Dashers are highly beneficial to the ecosystem and eat hundreds of smaller bugs daily.

Habitat:

Georgia Piedmont, slow-moving stream connecting to a lake at Indian Springs State Park.
