Field Notes

Description:

Small scarab at about 5mm in length. Shiny green with a red stripe where the elytra meet. They feed primarily on Manuka trees, hence their name, but are also known to feed on grass roots, which is why it is considered a pest on pastures.

Habitat:

Found along the Great Alpine Highway in the Southern Alps.
