Description:
These snails came in small clusters. Their distinctive feature is their small shell, with a spiral that makes a point, and the shell seem to come in a variety of colors from white to a pale green.
Habitat:
These snails are mostly found on mud beds near the seashore. They also live near fresh water areas, brackish water, which could explain why they were on the rocks of the York River because it is brackish water, beaches and temperate climates. Therefore they live in mostly salty and clear water areas in Canadian and United States regions.
Notes:
I have never seen these snails before on the rocks of the York River, so they are new to me. However it seems they present a health hazard to people because are usually host to the schistosomatid trematode flatworm and they try to pass that on to people. It's a good thing I did not come into contact with them. They must have appeared because they were feeding because they are detritus feeders and was feeding off whatever was on the rocks.
