Description:
I have never seen such quantity of this flower before (picture 4). These plants are herbaceous perennials growing to 5–15 cm tall. The flowers are small, dark purple, produced in a tight umbel that is surrounded by four conspicuous white petal-like bracts 1-1.5 cm long. The fruit is a red berry.
Habitat:
Forrest close to the shore with granite rocks.
Notes:
The plant prefers low level ground, damp and cold places, like seashores and mountain region the marshes.
The berry is red and slightly sweet but insipid taste. It has been seen eaten by grouses, and the Swedish name translated into english is poultry berry (hönsbär)
