Field Notes

Description:

A colorful moth sipping dew water that formed on the cold mosaic floor. Medium sized, 17mm in body length. As you can see here, the moth is putting it's wings up showing it's bright colours under the wings. Normally, the moth's wings are placed down showing only the dull greyish top side of the wings which camouflages it on tree barks.

Habitat:

During the day, adults are found camouflaging on the surface of tree trunks. This one was spotted at night on the mosaic floor in front the Botanical Garden entrance, Tawau Hills Park, Tawau, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy: 200m diameter. Spotted this with Dan during a night walk in one of the forest trails. Dan's spotting of it http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/232956032
