Giant clam (Tridacna gigas). Approximately 1.5 meters wide.

Habitat:

Great Barrier reef, Mackay reef.

well, this lovely shell is an invertebrate, that is the category in which belongs...
Ah, missed the "other" category. It would also be nice if there was a way to distinguish between photos of animals in the wild and animals in captivity - like "farmed" ostriches and zoo animals.
Technically, molluscs would fit into the 'other' category. We'll make this more clear for the next version of the site.
This species of clam cannot completely close its shell when full grown.
