about the size of a sparrow, this is a male.

I spotted this small bird while walking through a small village on my way to Salto del Golondrino. Hope this one pic is enough for ID.

I don't think so, again, the location doesn't match. Those are Old World birds, this was spotted in the New World.
I think this is the kind of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estrildid_finch
Thanks for the suggestion Ali but as I suspected from the common name, that bird is found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. I spotted this one in Colombia.
