Field Notes

Description:

About 9cm in length, stripes and spots so as to be well camouflaged. Long tail. It has elongated ribs and skin flaps on the sides of its body. When opened, these skin flaps allow it to glide between tree trunks.
This is a male as he has a large triangular yellow flap under his chin. The Gular fold.

Habitat:

Our garden area, near reservoir and "jungle" yishun, Singapore.

Notes:

I was looking for a sunbird when I saw this fellow glide from the Frangipani to another tree. First I thought it was a tiny bird, but when it landed I could see it was a Draco. Love these. See http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7731611
I started to take pictures and it gave me a personal performance when it glided back to the Frangipani! Special treat. :-)
