Field Notes

Description:

Two female mergansers at high tide diving for fish in tidal estuary.

Habitat:

Salt water estuary at high tide

Notes:

There is a fine blind made by an overhanging spruce on the shore of our local saltwater creek. A pair of female mergansers, usually very shy paddled right by within 15 feet of me. It was like when I was a kid and would hide behind the coats in our coat closet and some adult would come take one out without seeing me!
