Habitat:

Alongside a disturbed walking path that wasn't too far from some homes. I think some plants were garden escapees here.

:) You did most of it Suz. Fortunately it is commonly grown in Mozambique, and I like it much better than any of the other carb. alternatives here...

It's native to South America, but found in tropical climates all over the world ... you can't eat it raw, but the root is a staple crop. I'm not sure that's what it is, but if it grows in the U.S., Florida would be the place.
I just tried to look up the Cassava plant's range but I can't find it. Do you know if it is found in Central Florida?
Looks like it might be Cassava ...
