Description:
Podolepis jaceoides, commonly known as "showy copper-wire daisy", is a herbaceous perennial in the daisy family Asteraceae, and is an Australian native. Flowers are well spaced and the yellow flowers are quite brilliant. Stems can grow to about 70 cm high, and basal leaves grow to 20 cm in length. In this spotting I've shown flowers in full bloom plus going to seed. Flowering is usually in summer, but warm temps will see flowering well into autumn. PS: The name of this national park is Girraween, which means "place of flowers".
Habitat:
Spotted along the fire trail to West Bald Rock in Girraween National Park, SEQ. Dry sclerophyll forest with sandy granite soils, accumulated leaf litter, and foliage much greener and lush since the drought has broken. Well-shaded area and very damp from recent rain. Notes:
Podolepis is a genus of the pussy's-toes tribe Gnaphalieae within the daisy family Asteraceae. Pussy's-toes? That's adorable! It is endemic to Australia and can be found in every state.
