Marta, I know you are doing this very carefully. But there are others who just believe me ;-)...
bayucca and tmvdh: many thanks for taking care of verifying the ID for these very interesting insects! Do not worry bayucca: when you suggest me an ID I try to check online and see if I agree with you, so for sure I do not take it without thinking. Sometimes is difficult to say whether is right or wrong, as in this current example. I think if at least we get close to the family or genus this can also be OK. We do not always need to be so precise :-)
bayucca, as long as there's no better match: I agree...
Thorsten, hast du mein hmmm... gesehen? Usually I only make suggestion when I am pretty sure, but I also know, that there a quite a few wrong ones and I am always happy to get discussions about one of my IDs. In the meanwhile I have the impression, people just take my suggestions without even verifying it. And it is never too late to learn and I still have to learn a lot. Yes, it is definitely not Podalicus. Affinis just seemed to be the best match for that one, in my eyes.
Well, I'm just not as sure as you are, bayucca. It is definitely not podalicus...
Yes, I am pretty sure, hmmm... I know there are other ones, but to my knowledge is Affinis the only one with this quite distinct pattern. And I am sure it is still a nymph, that makes it a little bit easier, I think it will loose most of its markings as an adult. Are you sceptic about Affinis? Any other candidate?
Hi bayucca, are you sure about affinis? There are other and closely related species of the same genus living in Costa Rica...
