Phascolarctos cinereus

Field Notes
Description:
It's not everyday you see koalas on your afternoon walk, particularly when you're only 5-6 kilometres from the CBD of Australia's third large city. I was fortunate to see two this afternoon. The koala is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia. It is the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae, and its closest living relative is the wombat. Such an amazing animal that I see so rarely.
Habitat:
Open eucalypt forest at Whites Hill Reserve, situated in Holland Park in Brisbane's southeast. The reserve covers an area of over 170 hectares (420 acres).
Notes:
Lots of wind and intermittent showers made photos a real challenge.
