Yes, Dan, they do have a slender grass like leaf. I've added a second version of the field photo with red arrows to help people with spotting the orchids.

I added a photo of a field full of dozens of Slender sun orchids. They tend to grow in groups.

They are very small. The flowers average about the width of my thumb. Most years we get few or none of them, and then suddenly there are hundreds in one field. Most of our orchids have a symbiotic relationship with a soil bacteria. So if you want to try growing one, you need to take some soil from around its parent plant.

Thanks, I'm sill waiting to see if they come up again this year. We have four orchids currently in bloom, so I should get my act together and get out there with my camera. All the flowers are less than an inch in size, and most of the stems are less than six inches high, so it's a belly-to-the-ground approach.
