Field Notes

Description:

Chocolate coloured bird with glossy black head and bright yellow skin around the eyes. White patch on wing shows up well in flight. Bold and vocal with an amazing repertoire of sounds. This bird has successfully colonized the urban environment.

Habitat:

Just outside my boundary wall on a Gul mohur tree (Delonix regia). There are two chicks and both keep up an incessant chirping. parent bird picked up some crumbs from the stuff I put out on my terrace and went over to feed this chick which is big enough to eat on its own.

Notes:

Chicks this age are for ever falling into open rainwater drains and people often fish them out for me to dry, make comfortable and release when the adults arrive.
