Field Notes

Description:

The adult male is blue on the upperside, females are brown. Lycaeides melissa is characterized by the orange stripes on the underside of both wings.

Habitat:

Spotted nectaring on wildflowers along the shore of Deep Lake in eastern Washington.

Notes:

Range is western North America, southern Canada to northern Mexico.
