Field Notes

Description:

Juvenile bear about three feet tall, four feet long on all fours.

Habitat:

Continental montane forest.

Notes:

Spotted as it approached US Highway 26. When the bear observed my vehicle it retreated toward roadside trees. I stopped to try to get its picture. It moved along the treeline until it was behind my vehicle and then ran across the road. During this quick-paced encounter I was able to take only the two slightly-out-of-focus images above.
