Field Notes

Description:

This an immature red-backed shrike; they very similar to Isabelline Shrike, heavily barred underparts and upperpart; upper body is brown in colour and throat, underparts are light greyish in colour
Adult has blue-grey crown, black face mask, chestnut wings, blue-grey rump; black tail with white patches at the base
Photo taken at Ndutu region, Tanzania

Habitat:

Paleartic migrant and a winter visitor from sea-level to 3000m.
Scattered bush area; areas with shrubs and low height trees.
