Field Notes

Description:

In breeding plumage, the body is a maroon color with blue and green iridescent feathers. The Glossy Ibis is very similar to the White-faced Ibis, but the Glossy Ibis has a blue face (not always noticeable), and the face color just barely wraps around the eye, where as in White-faced Ibis the white face noticeably wraps around the eye.

Habitat:

This bird is rare for the area and time of year, but has been reported from the reservoir for over a week now. This was my second time to go after it, and it was there as soon as I got out of my truck. Was found foraging in a flooded ditch near a bridge with White Ibis and Common Moorhens. It was a lifer for me :)

Thanks J, Fyn, and Cody! And yea, apparently when I chase birds I always get them on the second attempt. But that's okay, at least I find them!
Nice one on nabbing it on thte second attempt!
Great series! Congratulations! I've only seen this species once.
