Description:

This fairly large fly (3 cm) was fanning a large egg mass periodically with its wings producing a loud buzzing noise.

I know, weird combo... I think its a bee fly but I'm not to confident about that either.
Maybe a Stratiomyidae? They often have hairy abdomens, patterned wings, long antennae.....the wing venation is fuzzy, but could be Stratiomyid.
wow, what an alien ;) cause of its hair to me it looks like bee fly, Bombyliidae
