Field Notes

Description:

Pica hudsonia is a medium size bird with a long iridescent blue-green tail. It is in the crow family and they are intelligent and resourceful opportunists. They can even use scent to find food an unusual trait for birds, which generally have very little sense of smell.

Habitat:

Spotted on a fence next to a farm road. I usually find these birds in eastern Washington in lower elevations often near farms.
