Field Notes

Description:

The tail was fairly thick and it had markings on the side of its face

Habitat:

Near the water in Crystal River Preserve State Park

Notes:

I didn't want to get too close because I didn't know what type of snake it was so it is a bit blurry. It was sitting next to a black racer (last photo) but I don't think it was one. I am guessing this is a type of watersnake

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

I would agree with a water snake, genus Nerodia. Not sure it can be ID to species by these photos? I would say N. fasciata if I had to guess though. The tail being blunt is likely healed over damage from a predator trying to grab it
