Field Notes

Description:

Butterfly trapped in Daylily flower. Hemerocallis.

Habitat:

Flower garden.

Notes:

Apparently this butterfly decided to sleep in the center of this daylily flower. The flower closed during the night and trapped the butterfly. I found it this morning, pulled away one of the petals, but it was still there this afternoon. I freed it. It stayed there not looking too good.

Are daylilies evolving into predators?

Thanks Ornithoptera. I wasn't sure of the ID. Most of the patterns and colors weren't apparent. By the next day it was all black.
