Fowler's Toads have dry, warty, skin and short legs. They are fairly small -- 2-3 in. (5.1-7.5 cm). The dorsal coloration is usually brownish or grayish. Also, there is often a light stripe down the dorsum. It can be distinguished from the American Toad (Bufo [Anaxyrus] americanus) by the presence of at least 3 warts within dark spot on the back.

Fowler's toads are found throughout the Eastern United --not in South Carolina, Georgia or Florida. This fowler's toad was spotted in a wooded area in our county park.
