Field Notes

Habitat:

These cormorants live their lives along Rangeet River Valley. This is quite a low altitude river, meaning the stretch of the river remains warm even during winters. Most of the stretch has thick forests on either sides.

Notes:

I was happy to see these 17 odd cormorants in one group, even now! As a kid angler I saw them in hordes. As a young angler I read that cormorants ate most of the fish in the rivers, because of which I never used to like them. But now we see bigger threats for local fish: 'development'. We as a local angler group fought tooth and nail against destructive fishing methods. But modern men have bigger destructive methods: hydro-electric projects. So, I was happy to see these 17 cormorants in a single group!
