Field Notes

Description:

Alydidae; Leptocorisa acuta (Thunberg, 1783). This Rice Bug can be seen, in our area, throughout the year. It is spotted visiting all kinds of wild grasses, but when the rice growing season arrives, its population explodes exponentially. The rice crop was harvested, here, about a month ago, but this little bug looks perfectly robust and healthy. So, it is obviously not suffering from lack of nutrition.

Habitat:

This Rice Bug was spotted on a banana plant in the rice mill backyard.
