I think there's a big colony near the Ebre's Delta. I'll have to check that out, though.
Thanks, I have updated. One of my earlier ones is here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/28878005 but I got better pictures in previous years. I don't think these breed here but they appear in large numbers at times.
Yeah Malcom, it does help a bit. I believe it's a 2nd cy (calender year) Yellow-legged gull. I can't be certain, but it appears to be one. 1st cy Audouin's Gulls show a strongly marked underwing pattern, also a head pattern, darker legs, etc. You can see a 2nd cy in my latest spotting which I uploaded 5 minutes ago, just for you haha. Hi Pedro, I have posted a second picture taken straight from the raw data, this is where I saw a hint of red at the base of the upper mandible, leading me to think it was Audouin's. I know it didn't focus but is it any help?
Sorry, only the one pic as it flew by, and my notebook said Audouin which we see a lot of here, but I'm not good with juveniles of any sort so...what do you think it is, we also have Yellow-legged, Black-headed and Mediterranean breeding here in large numbers, but certainly not Black-headed.
I don't think it's an Audouin's Gull, Malcom. The wing pattern and the bill don't seem quite right, even for a juvenile. But do you have more pictures?
