Field Notes

Description:

Glossy white moth, each wing with 4 black dots and 3 red dots on the head and two red bands across the waist. Length: 30mm.

Habitat:

Buddhist monastery surrounded by thick forest. Altitude about: 7 000ft.

Notes:

When my daughter spotted a moth at the monastery, I suspected there should be more somewhere, so I climbed one more floor up, and there I spotted this beauty! Background is the red paint on the wall.

Toshimi's Lichen moths're smaller, have a band at the wing frills, black dots're only three. Jatishwor's C. catorhoda also has a band at the frills and an extra band around the thorax; moreover its bands are muddy yellow, not red. All bayucca's examples fit well. Therefore, let's go with bayucca.

I remember that difference from other Cyana.
