Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized wading bird with recurved bill. The female's bill is more curved than the male. This pair is nesting out of range, having hatched two eggs, and as of this writing having raised one chick for at least a week. I didn't spot the chick although I did discover the mate in a photo I took of the (also out of range) breeding white pelicans http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/29455027

Habitat:

Marshland preserve that is also a reservoir for a major Oregon city
