Field Notes

Description:

Litter size ranges from one to 19 pups; the average is six. These large litters act as compensatory measures against the high juvenile mortality rate – about 50–70% of pups do not survive to adulthood. The pups weigh approximately 250 grams at birth, and are initially blind and limp-eared. Coyote growth rate is faster than that of wolves, being similar in length to that of the dhole. The eyes open and ears become erect after 10 days. Around 21–28 days after birth, the young begin to emerge from the den, and by 35 days, they are fully weaned.

Notes:

More Coyotes... pups this time! And more Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue center doing what they do best. There were originally 4, but now there are 11 and and 7 have mange. We weight them today and they all range from about 2500kgs to over 4000kgs. And they are feisty, let me tell you. I don't know any of their stories except for the 7 with mange. Another rescue center about 2 hours away didn't know how to take care of coyotes, let alone with mange. So, they were transfered to us and the 7 with mange are currently in isolation but of course are well taken care of. The other four and extremely healthy and doing well.

Thank you Ketze and Jemma :) Medicines like Frontline and Capstar do not directly contribute to helping mange but, just an educated guess, I think perhaps inadvertently it helps a little bit because if there are no fleas or ticks then the animal wouldn't have to itch so much, further causing skin damage.
does flea medicine take care of mange too?
Beautiful pups!:]
Yep! Hopefully they will be on their way in a few months time :)
That's great they are getting medical help to feel better!
