Black necked stilt
Himantopus mexicanus
44.0892, -123.297
Field Notes
Description:
A striking black-and-white bird with very long, thin red legs, the Black-necked Stilt is found along the edges of shallow water in open country.
Habitat:
marshland reserve and city reservoir known for supporting rare and out of area species. The stilts, avocets and pelican were at least 100 NW and over the cascades from their nearest known breeding area
Notes:
Makes me wonder if this one is related to the out of area stilt I saw near my home on the coast during winter migration last year. Although I couldn't find it, several people reported seeing them sitting on a nest
