Field Notes

Description:

The black vulture has a dark gray head and also dark gray legs. Short tail. Slightly smaller than the turkey vulture. Also called black buzzard. Often nests and roosts with other black vultures. Eats dead animals and occasionally captures small live mammals. Size 25" (63 cm) with a 4 3/4 foot wingspan.

Habitat:

This black vulture, along with 2 others that I saw, were spotted at our county park high up in a tree. I had never seen them at this park before.
