Description:
the round opening door of the nest is really all you could see as the rest of it is buried in the arms and spines of the cholla cactus. This cholla is the fruit chain type that is a very complicated structure with a single trunk at the base and many branches going in all direstions hanging with fruit and prickly tassels.
Habitat:
Sonoran desert - saguaro, palo verde, prickly pear, cholla, ocotillo. Hot, dry, windy, rocky and sandy.
Notes:
These cactus are really crazy! Their structure is so complicated and hard to follow when you are used to cedar and alder trees!
Probably a cactus wren nest!
