Field Notes

Description:

Damselfly with orange eyes, orange-brown stripes on the thorax, green and black abdomen, with two blue bands on the tip.

Habitat:

Riverine woodland, near the Mbuluzi river.

Notes:

Observed in the Mbuluzi Gorge, Mlawula Nature Reserve.

Yes, I've submitted it to the Virtual Museum - they've unfortunately got a lot of damselfly/dragonfly photos to work through though, over 2000 records not yet ID'd.
Oh dear Kate. Have you sent your photo to the experts? Shall I just wait for their ID?
My confidence with my provisional ID is dropping - it could be an immature male, not female!
The closest I can find for the meantime is possibly the female Masai Sprite (Pseudagrion massaicum) - I'd be fairly confident about calling it a female Sprite (Pseudagrion sp.)

I think I got pics of the same one, so I'll let you know when I get an ID on it.
